Hiking with My GPS

For my latest hiking adventure, I wanted to attempt something a little more adventerous. I avoided the usual hiking spots, and used instead the more demanding off trails, game paths, or even no trail. This was quite a challenging expedition.
Prior to beginning the expedition, I added the map into my Garmin eTrex Vista HCx GPS. Adding maps was very simple, as I just connected it to my Mac and downloaded the proper map. 5 minutes later I was all prepared to start the hike with some great park maps.

We drove to the park, and created a base camp. After a restful sleep, we woke up and had breakfast and planned to begin. I inputted a final waypoint with my Garmin etrex vista HCX review the maps and checkpoints, and we began the hike.
The endevor was demanding. Weather was ideal, and the view breathtaking. It would take another blog post just to describe all the views. The greatest part, the terrain was a incredible challenge, I felt like a settler out to explore the west.
There were a couple times I might have found myself lost with a traditional map and compass. The terrain was that ambitious, and several of the game trails that twisty. To my relief my Garmin GPS worked better than I had hoped, it always identified my location, despite the foliage depth or minimal sky view. My friend said this device can get a signal indoors, which is completely amazing.
We reached our travel objective after many hours hiking, had a quick lunch, then hiked back through another trail. When the trip was completed, we were tired, but it was an incredible expedition.
For a person of medium hiking skills, I could complete atrip like this one without my garmin etrex vista gps. Older gps systems find getting a signal challenging when under cover or in rough terrain, but my vista hcx worked well. I am certain it is what I will take on my next expedition.
